Honorable chairs, distinguished delegates and esteemed guests,

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you all to Birkerød Gymnasium’s 13th annual Model United Nations conference, BIGMUN 2025. Once again, we have the opportunity to share this important part of Birkerød Gymnasium’s culture with the world. I am extremely grateful for this opportunity of being the Secretary General of BIGMUN 2025 and it is my honor to be able to take part in bringing this conference to you all, alongside a team of passionate students and teachers.

The theme of our conference this year is Achieving Peace ‘Piece by Piece’. We hope to nurture and contribute to the long standing discussion regarding the importance and need for peace, considering the risks of international conflict. When we say peace, we are not only referring to ceasing violence in all its forms, but also ensuring equitable conditions for all, protecting human rights worldwide, eliminating all forms of discrimination, preserving the wellbeing of the planet and most importantly establishing the grounds for continuous peace in the future.

As recognized by the The United Nations General Assembly, peace is “not only is the absence of conflict, but also requires a positive, dynamic participatory process where dialogue is encouraged and conflicts are solved in a spirit of mutual understanding and cooperation.” Let us remember and carry this purpose with us while engaging in diplomatic discussions with other delegates.

By discussing a diverse range of topics and a wide scope on what it is that contributes to building peace, we can work together to achieve harmonious conditions that make an amicable future possible. I sincerely hope that every delegate approaches their topics with purpose, respect, and an open-mind while debating in the best interest of humanity, as these topics embody many of the very real issues present around the globe.

The BIGMUN Organizing committee are working eagerly to host another year of constructive debating and lasting experiences as we have every year before. We aim to provide a platform where participants not only engage in meaningful conversation but also form memorable friendships and connections.
